iPhone 17e Launch Date: Expected Release Timeline for 2026

Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e, its replacement for the SE line, back in February, and since then there have been quite a few conflicting reports on whether the "e" model would be refreshed annually or not. The SE iPhones took a few years between generations, but the renaming did imply a now-annual release for Apple's cheapest handset.

And today a new report from Korea seemingly confirms this, saying there will be an iPhone 17e, and it's coming next spring. It will have the exact same display panel as its predecessor, so if there are any notable upgrades, they will be elsewhere.

BOE, Samsung Display, and LG Display have all supplied panels for the iPhone 16e, with BOE having the biggest chunk of the pie, and all three companies are expected to reprise their roles for the upcoming iPhone 17e.

Apple allegedly expects to sell around 20 million iPhone 16e units this year, which is in line with sales of previous SE models.

The iPhone 17e is expected to arrive in the first months of 2026, and a new report from Korea today shares some more details about its screen. Apparently, the panel will be made by BOE, Samsung Display, and LG Display, with BOE getting most of the orders.

The screen will be identical to the LTPS OLED seen in the iPhone 16e, but it will have thinner bezels. Apple allegedly expects to ship around 8 million iPhone 17e units in the first half of next year.

According to previous rumors, the iPhone 17e will have the same 18MP selfie camera that made its debut on the rest of the iPhone 17 family in September. It's expected to be powered by the iPhone 17's A19 chip, and will most likely retain the 48MP camera of the iPhone 16e.

According to a new research note by analyst Jeff Pu, Apple's upcoming iPhone 17e will come with a camera upgrade. Specifically, it will get the same 18MP selfie camera as the rest of the iPhone 17 family.

This was introduced with the iPhone 17 series, so it's both great and rather surprising to see Apple extending it to the cheapest model in the lineup so quickly - it's not often the company does something like this.

The new camera uses a square sensor, which lets you take vertical or horizontal selfies without needing to move the phone. Pu says the iPhone 17e will arrive "in mid-1Q26", which means February.

The new selfie camera will be one of the main upgrades the iPhone 17e will bring to the table compared to its predecessor, the other being the A19 chip, which is also used by the iPhone 17.
